Narrative:
We had just landed on runway 19R at sna and had cleared the runway at taxiway east with a subsequent turn onto taxiway a. Sna runway 19L is between 19R and taxiway a with taxiway east about 500 ft south of the departure end of runway 19L. A single engine high wing aircraft was taking off of runway 19L when at about 100 ft AGL the aircraft leveled off and began a left turn toward us. The captain stopped the taxi until the departing aircraft's intentions could be determined. We advised ground control of the situation for relay to the tower. Commercial and private aviation can co- exist, however it takes everyone's adherence to procedure and a heads up situational awareness.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC -- ACR TAXIING IN IS FORCED TO BRAKE WHEN ANOTHER ACFT ON INITIAL CLBOUT TURNS ACROSS THE TXWY AT LOW ALT.
Narrative: WE HAD JUST LANDED ON RWY 19R AT SNA AND HAD CLRED THE RWY AT TXWY E WITH A SUBSEQUENT TURN ONTO TXWY A. SNA RWY 19L IS BTWN 19R AND TXWY A WITH TXWY E ABOUT 500 FT S OF THE DEP END OF RWY 19L. A SINGLE ENG HIGH WING ACFT WAS TAKING OFF OF RWY 19L WHEN AT ABOUT 100 FT AGL THE ACFT LEVELED OFF AND BEGAN A L TURN TOWARD US. THE CAPT STOPPED THE TAXI UNTIL THE DEPARTING ACFT'S INTENTIONS COULD BE DETERMINED. WE ADVISED GND CTL OF THE SIT FOR RELAY TO THE TWR. COMMERCIAL AND PVT AVIATION CAN CO- EXIST, HOWEVER IT TAKES EVERYONE'S ADHERENCE TO PROC AND A HEADS UP SITUATIONAL AWARENESS.
