Narrative:
Climbing out from 3g3 en route to 6500 ft VFR to laf after a refuel stop. I contacted akron/canton approach immediately after takeoff requesting VFR flight following in climb to 6500 ft en route to laf. As we approached 3000 ft, we observed a cessna 172, same direction, also climbing, turned left to avoid, missed by 400 or 500 ft. Asked canton/akron approach why they didn't call the traffic (they admitted they could see it on their radar). The reply was that we were nearing the edge of their area! I guess if we hit them outside their area it doesn't count??
