Narrative:
After receiving clearance for visual approach for runway 4 at pah, ZME advised us of traffic at 11 O'clock, 2 NM, 2100 ft MSL, heading toward the airport and to switch to pah tower. Pah tower had no reported traffic and told us to enter left downwind for runway 4. We spotted traffic at 12 O'clock same altitude and heading toward us. We climbed and made evasive action to avoid oncoming traffic, which placed us on a right downwind. We advised pah tower of the traffic and were cleared to land. Solution: radar and better communication between pilot and ATC.

Title: BE2H PLT EXPERIENCED LTSS WHILE ON A VISUAL APCH CLRNC IN CLASS D AIRSPACE.
Narrative: AFTER RECEIVING CLRNC FOR VISUAL APCH FOR RWY 4 AT PAH, ZME ADVISED US OF TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK, 2 NM, 2100 FT MSL, HDG TOWARD THE ARPT AND TO SWITCH TO PAH TWR. PAH TWR HAD NO RPTED TFC AND TOLD US TO ENTER L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 4. WE SPOTTED TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK SAME ALT AND HDG TOWARD US. WE CLBED AND MADE EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID ONCOMING TFC, WHICH PLACED US ON A R DOWNWIND. WE ADVISED PAH TWR OF THE TFC AND WERE CLRED TO LAND. SOLUTION: RADAR AND BETTER COM BTWN PLT AND ATC.
