Narrative:
We were given 'expect eau-1 STAR' at msp. We had not been issued this plate prior to departing dtw on a 4 day trip. The 'expect' information was then changed to 'gep 1' (gopher 1) STAR. We also had not been issued this arrival. We were able to get a narrative of the arrival (including coordinates) via ACARS from flight dispatch and flew arrival accordingly. After landing (at operations) saw a copy of this arrival and determined that we had flown it correctly. Upon checking with company, learned that the commercial provider had issued plates too late for those of us who left home base more than 2 days prior to the effective date of the plate. I'm not sure what solution is in order here other than not to accept a clearance without a hard copy of printed material.
