Narrative:
At XA24 we departed ptr for mhe. After departure we contacted ZMP for our IFR clearance to mhe. We were cleared to mhe via V120 and climb to 19000 ft. At approximately XA47 we asked for lower, and received discretion to 11000 ft. We reported out of 19000 ft for 11000 ft, and I disconnected the altitude hold and selected 11000 ft and approximately 1500 FPM descent down to 11000 ft. In the course of our descent, I was talking to my copilot about the WX at mhe and the other stops, as we were going to continue on to ykn and rpb. We heard the altitude alerter go off, and as we looked up, I saw that we were continuing our descent through 10700 ft, I quickly disengaged the autoplt and leveled the plane off at 10500 ft, trying to call center and cancel IFR, we squawked 1200 and continued my descent in VFR. We did receive cancellation from ZMP and continued on into mitchell, sd, and the rest of our route. Looking back on our trip, it made me realize how complacent a person can become, knowing that it was good VFR, and the reliance that a person puts on your flight director and autoplt. Also our crew coordination seemed to be out of sync, and our discussing things that were not relevant to our trip, made us both miss the 1000 ft warning above our altitude. We definitely reevaluated our crew coordination and put ourselves on track with our procedures that we had learned from the professional flight training school.

Title: LTT FLC OVERSHOT CLRNC ALT IN DSCNT IN VFR CONDITIONS.
Narrative: AT XA24 WE DEPARTED PTR FOR MHE. AFTER DEP WE CONTACTED ZMP FOR OUR IFR CLRNC TO MHE. WE WERE CLRED TO MHE VIA V120 AND CLB TO 19000 FT. AT APPROX XA47 WE ASKED FOR LOWER, AND RECEIVED DISCRETION TO 11000 FT. WE RPTED OUT OF 19000 FT FOR 11000 FT, AND I DISCONNECTED THE ALT HOLD AND SELECTED 11000 FT AND APPROX 1500 FPM DSCNT DOWN TO 11000 FT. IN THE COURSE OF OUR DSCNT, I WAS TALKING TO MY COPLT ABOUT THE WX AT MHE AND THE OTHER STOPS, AS WE WERE GOING TO CONTINUE ON TO YKN AND RPB. WE HEARD THE ALT ALERTER GO OFF, AND AS WE LOOKED UP, I SAW THAT WE WERE CONTINUING OUR DSCNT THROUGH 10700 FT, I QUICKLY DISENGAGED THE AUTOPLT AND LEVELED THE PLANE OFF AT 10500 FT, TRYING TO CALL CTR AND CANCEL IFR, WE SQUAWKED 1200 AND CONTINUED MY DSCNT IN VFR. WE DID RECEIVE CANCELLATION FROM ZMP AND CONTINUED ON INTO MITCHELL, SD, AND THE REST OF OUR RTE. LOOKING BACK ON OUR TRIP, IT MADE ME REALIZE HOW COMPLACENT A PERSON CAN BECOME, KNOWING THAT IT WAS GOOD VFR, AND THE RELIANCE THAT A PERSON PUTS ON YOUR FLT DIRECTOR AND AUTOPLT. ALSO OUR CREW COORD SEEMED TO BE OUT OF SYNC, AND OUR DISCUSSING THINGS THAT WERE NOT RELEVANT TO OUR TRIP, MADE US BOTH MISS THE 1000 FT WARNING ABOVE OUR ALT. WE DEFINITELY REEVALUATED OUR CREW COORD AND PUT OURSELVES ON TRACK WITH OUR PROCS THAT WE HAD LEARNED FROM THE PROFESSIONAL FLT TRAINING SCHOOL.
