Narrative:
Approaching airport called unicom. No answer. Landed. After landing, a fellow came out and told us airport was closed. There were no X's on runway. We left and overflew airport to make sure no X's were visible from the air. If runways were X'ed out or if they responded on unicom we would never have landed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: FSS briefer stated a NOTAM had been issued in jun/95 stating that the airport was closed and had never been canceled. Airport manager stated the airport was having the runways resurfaced and a NOTAM had been issued. X's were not put on the runway because FAA had told him an 'right' in the segmented circle was all that was needed. Airport will be reopening soon.
