Narrative:
I was cleared to land on runway 14, and hold short runway 17, then told to taxi down to end. After landing taxied down runway and past end of runway to hold short of runway 17. I stopped about 30 ft from edge of runway 17, facing K-1. I did not see any hold short lines. Then tower controller (what I heard) 'immediately cross to taxiway M (and possibly) without delay.' I then crossed runway 17 at end of runway. As I taxi past edge, I realized I was in the wrong place. I continued to other side of runway hold short lines, at K-1. There was another aircraft on takeoff roll on runway 17. After listening to tape at slc ATCT, just prior to crossing the hold short lines, which are north of (runway 14/32) 32 numbers, the tower operator called the wrong aircraft registration numbers twice. For myself to stop and turn right to taxiway M. Finally when he called my number, I heard to taxi without delay to taxiway M.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF AN SMA FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF AN ACTIVE RWY DURING TAXI AFTER LNDG RESULTING IN A CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT TAKING OFF.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 14, AND HOLD SHORT RWY 17, THEN TOLD TO TAXI DOWN TO END. AFTER LNDG TAXIED DOWN RWY AND PAST END OF RWY TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 17. I STOPPED ABOUT 30 FT FROM EDGE OF RWY 17, FACING K-1. I DID NOT SEE ANY HOLD SHORT LINES. THEN TWR CTLR (WHAT I HEARD) 'IMMEDIATELY CROSS TO TXWY M (AND POSSIBLY) WITHOUT DELAY.' I THEN CROSSED RWY 17 AT END OF RWY. AS I TAXI PAST EDGE, I REALIZED I WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE. I CONTINUED TO OTHER SIDE OF RWY HOLD SHORT LINES, AT K-1. THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT ON TKOF ROLL ON RWY 17. AFTER LISTENING TO TAPE AT SLC ATCT, JUST PRIOR TO XING THE HOLD SHORT LINES, WHICH ARE N OF (RWY 14/32) 32 NUMBERS, THE TWR OPERATOR CALLED THE WRONG ACFT REGISTRATION NUMBERS TWICE. FOR MYSELF TO STOP AND TURN R TO TXWY M. FINALLY WHEN HE CALLED MY NUMBER, I HEARD TO TAXI WITHOUT DELAY TO TXWY M.
