Narrative:

I was cruising at 3000 ft in contact with evansville after transferring from louisville en route to college station, tx. Conditions were deteriorating but still VFR and I asked for vector around a storm front. Evansville told me to head east and I did. I immediately within 30 seconds hit serious turbulence and lost ground which put me into a cloud. I knew my position and ground attitude, so I continued down until I was VFR with ground contact and asked for vectors for nearest airport which was owensboro. I was vectored onto final for 180 degrees and switched frequencys and landed at airport. The airport was IFR so I waited until it was VFR and returned to michigan.
