Narrative:
I changed the right hand forward fuel boost pump on aircraft. I encountered problems getting that locking ring to lock. But finally got it to lock. I closed the fuel tank and transferred all the fuel on the aircraft into the right hand wing to leak check the fuel tank cover. Then redistributed the fuel back to the left hand tank using the right hand pumps. The pump operated ok in the morning. Prior to flight, and after taxiing the aircraft twice for aircraft relocation, maintenance discovered the center tank pumps and the right hand forward pump had popped circuit breakers. They could not reset. They released the aircraft on 2 MEL's. Maintenance in detroit found the pump dislodged. They re-engaged the pump with difficulty, but found that with a strong pull on the pump, it became dislodged again. They replaced the pump believing there to be a problem with the locking ring. Reset the center tank pumps circuit breakers and cleared the MEL. Replaced right hand forward pump and cleared MEL.

Title: RPTR POSSIBLY INSTALLED A FUEL BOOST PUMP IMPROPERLY.
Narrative: I CHANGED THE R HAND FORWARD FUEL BOOST PUMP ON ACFT. I ENCOUNTERED PROBS GETTING THAT LOCKING RING TO LOCK. BUT FINALLY GOT IT TO LOCK. I CLOSED THE FUEL TANK AND TRANSFERRED ALL THE FUEL ON THE ACFT INTO THE R HAND WING TO LEAK CHK THE FUEL TANK COVER. THEN REDISTRIBUTED THE FUEL BACK TO THE L HAND TANK USING THE R HAND PUMPS. THE PUMP OPERATED OK IN THE MORNING. PRIOR TO FLT, AND AFTER TAXIING THE ACFT TWICE FOR ACFT RELOCATION, MAINT DISCOVERED THE CTR TANK PUMPS AND THE R HAND FORWARD PUMP HAD POPPED CIRCUIT BREAKERS. THEY COULD NOT RESET. THEY RELEASED THE ACFT ON 2 MEL'S. MAINT IN DETROIT FOUND THE PUMP DISLODGED. THEY RE-ENGAGED THE PUMP WITH DIFFICULTY, BUT FOUND THAT WITH A STRONG PULL ON THE PUMP, IT BECAME DISLODGED AGAIN. THEY REPLACED THE PUMP BELIEVING THERE TO BE A PROB WITH THE LOCKING RING. RESET THE CTR TANK PUMPS CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND CLRED THE MEL. REPLACED R HAND FORWARD PUMP AND CLRED MEL.
