Narrative:
In jfk international airport, between flts, an FAA maintenance inspector noticed what he felt was a left outboard flap fairing (he called it an outboard canoe) not quite rigged properly. The maintenance inspector asked me, the PIC, to call maintenance control and write it up at the next maintenance facility. I called maintenance control, they were satisfied to have las vegas look at it. When I got to las vegas, they could find no problem with the flap rigging or anything else and could see no reason to write it up. I should also point out that in jfk, my so did not even notice this situation on his walkaround. And, unless the FAA inspector did not physically (with his fingers) point it out, it would have never been noticed. Now I understand that the FAA in jfk might be questioning why it was never written up in las vegas. Thus the report.

Title: LACK OF LOGBOOK ENTRY FOR SUPPOSED ACFT MAINT DISCREPANCY QUESTIONED AFTER THE FACT BY THE FAA.
Narrative: IN JFK INTL ARPT, BTWN FLTS, AN FAA MAINT INSPECTOR NOTICED WHAT HE FELT WAS A L OUTBOARD FLAP FAIRING (HE CALLED IT AN OUTBOARD CANOE) NOT QUITE RIGGED PROPERLY. THE MAINT INSPECTOR ASKED ME, THE PIC, TO CALL MAINT CTL AND WRITE IT UP AT THE NEXT MAINT FACILITY. I CALLED MAINT CTL, THEY WERE SATISFIED TO HAVE LAS VEGAS LOOK AT IT. WHEN I GOT TO LAS VEGAS, THEY COULD FIND NO PROB WITH THE FLAP RIGGING OR ANYTHING ELSE AND COULD SEE NO REASON TO WRITE IT UP. I SHOULD ALSO POINT OUT THAT IN JFK, MY SO DID NOT EVEN NOTICE THIS SIT ON HIS WALKAROUND. THUS THE RPT.
