Narrative:
A possible violation occurred through an inadvertent overflt of a company required inspection listed in the far 135 operations specifications. 4 pilots overflew a 50 hour pmi inspection on aircraft xyz. A logbook entry was made on oct/xx/95 reflecting the inspection completed. However, at some point, the mechanic crossed out the entry and marked it 'entered in error.' it is apparent the mechanic conducted the inspection, listed it in the logbooks, then upon second review misread the inspection date and opted to eliminate the write-up in favor of the future date when he would re-enter the inspection. Events: I was directed to fly a replacement aircraft to garden banks 189, gulf of mexico, and return with aircraft xyz to patterson, la, for major maintenance. On arrival at GB189, I spoke with the offshore pilot who was flying xyz that day for 1.2 hours. A check of the logbook entries appeared valid. Preflight, and talk with pilot showed no problems with aircraft xyz. I departed for patterson 1.8 hour flight. On oct/fri/95 I was advised of a possible violation along with the other pilots. The situation is under review.

Title: HELI PLT FLIES ACFT WITH QUESTIONABLE MAINT LOG ENTRY.
Narrative: A POSSIBLE VIOLATION OCCURRED THROUGH AN INADVERTENT OVERFLT OF A COMPANY REQUIRED INSPECTION LISTED IN THE FAR 135 OPS SPECS. 4 PLTS OVERFLEW A 50 HR PMI INSPECTION ON ACFT XYZ. A LOGBOOK ENTRY WAS MADE ON OCT/XX/95 REFLECTING THE INSPECTION COMPLETED. HOWEVER, AT SOME POINT, THE MECH CROSSED OUT THE ENTRY AND MARKED IT 'ENTERED IN ERROR.' IT IS APPARENT THE MECH CONDUCTED THE INSPECTION, LISTED IT IN THE LOGBOOKS, THEN UPON SECOND REVIEW MISREAD THE INSPECTION DATE AND OPTED TO ELIMINATE THE WRITE-UP IN FAVOR OF THE FUTURE DATE WHEN HE WOULD RE-ENTER THE INSPECTION. EVENTS: I WAS DIRECTED TO FLY A REPLACEMENT ACFT TO GARDEN BANKS 189, GULF OF MEXICO, AND RETURN WITH ACFT XYZ TO PATTERSON, LA, FOR MAJOR MAINT. ON ARR AT GB189, I SPOKE WITH THE OFFSHORE PLT WHO WAS FLYING XYZ THAT DAY FOR 1.2 HRS. A CHK OF THE LOGBOOK ENTRIES APPEARED VALID. PREFLT, AND TALK WITH PLT SHOWED NO PROBS WITH ACFT XYZ. I DEPARTED FOR PATTERSON 1.8 HR FLT. ON OCT/FRI/95 I WAS ADVISED OF A POSSIBLE VIOLATION ALONG WITH THE OTHER PLTS. THE SIT IS UNDER REVIEW.
