Narrative:
On approach runway 27R at lhr, autoplt on, about a 20 degree bank intercepting runway 27R localizer. ATC asked us to slow to 180 KTS while descending to 2500 ft. Minimum clean speed was 214 KTS from the FMC, IAS was about 214 KTS plus or minus. Bug selected to 180 KTS, flaps at 1 degree. The stick shaker activated for no apparent reason. Autoplt was disconnected, wings leveled. The shaker stopped, IAS still about 190 KTS. During this maneuver we went through the runway 27R localizer and corrected back to the right. No other traffic was observed. The controller apparently noted our going through the localizer and we told him we had the runway in sight, and he cleared us for a visual approach to runway 27R. Everything was normal as flaps were extended on schedule. ATC did not mention anything about going through the localizer. Whereas the problem was transient, about 5 seconds, I did not mention the shaker to the controller.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B767 PIC CITES A 'NUISANCE STICK SHAKER' AS THE REASON FOR A HDG TRACK DEV WHILE RADAR VECTORING FOR AN ILS APCH INTO LHR.
Narrative: ON APCH RWY 27R AT LHR, AUTOPLT ON, ABOUT A 20 DEG BANK INTERCEPTING RWY 27R LOC. ATC ASKED US TO SLOW TO 180 KTS WHILE DSNDING TO 2500 FT. MINIMUM CLEAN SPD WAS 214 KTS FROM THE FMC, IAS WAS ABOUT 214 KTS PLUS OR MINUS. BUG SELECTED TO 180 KTS, FLAPS AT 1 DEG. THE STICK SHAKER ACTIVATED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. AUTOPLT WAS DISCONNECTED, WINGS LEVELED. THE SHAKER STOPPED, IAS STILL ABOUT 190 KTS. DURING THIS MANEUVER WE WENT THROUGH THE RWY 27R LOC AND CORRECTED BACK TO THE R. NO OTHER TFC WAS OBSERVED. THE CTLR APPARENTLY NOTED OUR GOING THROUGH THE LOC AND WE TOLD HIM WE HAD THE RWY IN SIGHT, AND HE CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 27R. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AS FLAPS WERE EXTENDED ON SCHEDULE. ATC DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT GOING THROUGH THE LOC. WHEREAS THE PROB WAS TRANSIENT, ABOUT 5 SECONDS, I DID NOT MENTION THE SHAKER TO THE CTLR.
