Narrative:

From gate cleared to taxi to runway 08R. Taxied north on taxiway F and turned right on taxiway east. I stopped prior to displaced threshold. At that time I was told I should not have turned onto taxiway east. I was not told to hold short of taxiway east nor did I see any signs to restrict me, nor did I see a hold short line. Better signage and better ground control clrncs are needed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated he was taxiing a B727-200. After pushback there was a MD88 at his 11 O'clock position that had pushed back ahead of him. The ground control taxi instructions were to follow the MD88 which the reporter did. Perhaps the MD88 subsequently changed to tower before taxiing on to taxiway east which is the extended centerline of runway 08R but being on ground the reporter did not hear any instructions given to the MD88. The ground controller asked the reporter if he saw a sign which would have precluded the reporter from taxiing on taxiway east but the reporter said he did not. Perhaps the MD88 blocked his view. The ground controller admitted that the area is a problem for them. The reporter said he did not believe runway 08R was used normally for lndgs due to high terrain just west of the airport. Taxiway east is lighted with blue lights of a taxiway and gives no indication the reporter could notice of its association with the runway 08R. The reporter feels this is a problem that should be attended to.

Title: RPTR DID NOT TAXI WHERE THE GND CTLR INTENDED.

Narrative: FROM GATE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 08R. TAXIED N ON TXWY F AND TURNED R ON TXWY E. I STOPPED PRIOR TO DISPLACED THRESHOLD. AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD I SHOULD NOT HAVE TURNED ONTO TXWY E. I WAS NOT TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY E NOR DID I SEE ANY SIGNS TO RESTRICT ME, NOR DID I SEE A HOLD SHORT LINE. BETTER SIGNAGE AND BETTER GND CTL CLRNCS ARE NEEDED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED HE WAS TAXIING A B727-200. AFTER PUSHBACK THERE WAS A MD88 AT HIS 11 O'CLOCK POS THAT HAD PUSHED BACK AHEAD OF HIM. THE GND CTL TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WERE TO FOLLOW THE MD88 WHICH THE RPTR DID. PERHAPS THE MD88 SUBSEQUENTLY CHANGED TO TWR BEFORE TAXIING ON TO TXWY E WHICH IS THE EXTENDED CTRLINE OF RWY 08R BUT BEING ON GND THE RPTR DID NOT HEAR ANY INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO THE MD88. THE GND CTLR ASKED THE RPTR IF HE SAW A SIGN WHICH WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED THE RPTR FROM TAXIING ON TXWY E BUT THE RPTR SAID HE DID NOT. PERHAPS THE MD88 BLOCKED HIS VIEW. THE GND CTLR ADMITTED THAT THE AREA IS A PROB FOR THEM. THE RPTR SAID HE DID NOT BELIEVE RWY 08R WAS USED NORMALLY FOR LNDGS DUE TO HIGH TERRAIN JUST W OF THE ARPT. TXWY E IS LIGHTED WITH BLUE LIGHTS OF A TXWY AND GIVES NO INDICATION THE RPTR COULD NOTICE OF ITS ASSOCIATION WITH THE RWY 08R. THE RPTR FEELS THIS IS A PROB THAT SHOULD BE ATTENDED TO.
