Narrative:
Landed without clearance. I am new captain, was distraction by windshear, turbulence and monitoring flying of first officer. Hurriedly entered ground frequency on final (removing tower frequency). Upon clearing runway noticed switch was still set to approach control frequency. Supplemental information from acn 320899: the situation also could have been prevented by improved crew coordination and cockpit procedures to ensure that a landing clearance is obtained in a timely manner. The addition of a landing clearance challenge to the before landing checklist might be helpful with this problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN LR JET AIR AMBULANCE FLT FORGOT TO CONTACT TWR FOR LNDG CLRNC.
Narrative: LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC. I AM NEW CAPT, WAS DISTR BY WINDSHEAR, TURB AND MONITORING FLYING OF FO. HURRIEDLY ENTERED GND FREQ ON FINAL (REMOVING TWR FREQ). UPON CLRING RWY NOTICED SWITCH WAS STILL SET TO APCH CTL FREQ. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 320899: THE SIT ALSO COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY IMPROVED CREW COORD AND COCKPIT PROCS TO ENSURE THAT A LNDG CLRNC IS OBTAINED IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE ADDITION OF A LNDG CLRNC CHALLENGE TO THE BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST MIGHT BE HELPFUL WITH THIS PROB.
