Narrative:

On climb out from ord we were to level at 26000 ft. Somewhere around FL250 I was going to switch from EPR climb to mach speed. I instead selected mach climb which canceled altitude capture. At FL259 I selected altitude hold. Climbing through FL262 the rate of climb had not changed from approximately 2000 FPM so I disconnected the autoplt. By now we were at FL263 and climbing. I stopped the climb at FL264 and returned to FL260 and reengaged the autoplt. No traffic was noted visually or on TCASII and no call was made or received from ord center. Captain was flying this leg.
