Narrative:

While monitoring orlando approach on my #1 radio I decided to monitor my company frequency on my #2. The switch that enables me to transmit on #2 while still monitoring #1 became inoperative preventing me from monitoring approach control. After a long silence and my position approaching orl, I press the test button to break the squelch on the #1. I heard nothing and switched radio to reestablish communications with approach. The flight continued normally. In the future I will press the test button to ensure the switch is operative.
