Narrative:
After landing runway 16 hpn, braking action poor, used entire length runway to stop. Asked by tower during rollout to expedite clearing as there was an aircraft on final behind us. Noted snow removal vehicles in vicinity of taxiway a (normal turnoff to terminal) and aircraft nose was cocked slightly to right due to slippery condition of runway, so we cleared runway via taxiway left. After clearing, during left turn on run-up area, nosewheel hit snow/ice ridge and went full left and remained stuck. Aircraft remained stuck in this position until maintenance arrived with towbar to straighten nosewheel. Functional check steering completed and aircraft taxied to gate with no further problems. Suggest that situation could have been improved by approach with extended spacing of aircraft to allow for conditions and slower taxi speeds. Tower could have assisted in situational awareness by telling us that trucks in vicinity of taxiway a turnoff were well clear of taxiway. And reduced turn may have prevented nosewheel steering problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE FLC WAS UNDER PRESSURE TO CLR A SLIPPERY RWY TO ACCOMMODATE A LNDG ACFT BEHIND HIM. IN THE PROCESS OF CLRING THE RWY HIS NOSEWHEEL WAS COCKED SLIDING INTO A SNOW AND ICE RIDGE.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG RWY 16 HPN, BRAKING ACTION POOR, USED ENTIRE LENGTH RWY TO STOP. ASKED BY TWR DURING ROLLOUT TO EXPEDITE CLRING AS THERE WAS AN ACFT ON FINAL BEHIND US. NOTED SNOW REMOVAL VEHICLES IN VICINITY OF TXWY A (NORMAL TURNOFF TO TERMINAL) AND ACFT NOSE WAS COCKED SLIGHTLY TO R DUE TO SLIPPERY CONDITION OF RWY, SO WE CLRED RWY VIA TXWY L. AFTER CLRING, DURING L TURN ON RUN-UP AREA, NOSEWHEEL HIT SNOW/ICE RIDGE AND WENT FULL L AND REMAINED STUCK. ACFT REMAINED STUCK IN THIS POS UNTIL MAINT ARRIVED WITH TOWBAR TO STRAIGHTEN NOSEWHEEL. FUNCTIONAL CHK STEERING COMPLETED AND ACFT TAXIED TO GATE WITH NO FURTHER PROBS. SUGGEST THAT SIT COULD HAVE BEEN IMPROVED BY APCH WITH EXTENDED SPACING OF ACFT TO ALLOW FOR CONDITIONS AND SLOWER TAXI SPDS. TWR COULD HAVE ASSISTED IN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS BY TELLING US THAT TRUCKS IN VICINITY OF TXWY A TURNOFF WERE WELL CLR OF TXWY. AND REDUCED TURN MAY HAVE PREVENTED NOSEWHEEL STEERING PROB.
