Narrative:
We landed at XX15 local at ord on runway 27R. During rollout, VHF was inadvertently switched to ground control frequency before any tower instructions were heard for clearing the runway. We rolled past the intersection with runway 22R because we heard no clearance to turn onto it. We continued rollout and cleared runway at taxiway east. Then we checked the radio, selected correct frequency, and received taxi instructions from tower and instructions to switch to ground control. Tower said that they had attempted 3 calls to us. WX was VMC. No known conflicts resulted. Don't know how radio got switched early, but will be much more aware of frequency selected in future.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ON LNDG ROLLOUT, FLC INADVERTENTLY SWITCHED OFF TWR FREQ. CONSEQUENTLY, TWR TRIED CONTACTING ACFT 3 TIMES TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS. FLC REALIZED THE PROB WHEN THEY HAD NO COM WITH TWR AND SWITCHED BACK.
Narrative: WE LANDED AT XX15 LCL AT ORD ON RWY 27R. DURING ROLLOUT, VHF WAS INADVERTENTLY SWITCHED TO GND CTL FREQ BEFORE ANY TWR INSTRUCTIONS WERE HEARD FOR CLRING THE RWY. WE ROLLED PAST THE INTXN WITH RWY 22R BECAUSE WE HEARD NO CLRNC TO TURN ONTO IT. WE CONTINUED ROLLOUT AND CLRED RWY AT TXWY E. THEN WE CHKED THE RADIO, SELECTED CORRECT FREQ, AND RECEIVED TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM TWR AND INSTRUCTIONS TO SWITCH TO GND CTL. TWR SAID THAT THEY HAD ATTEMPTED 3 CALLS TO US. WX WAS VMC. NO KNOWN CONFLICTS RESULTED. DON'T KNOW HOW RADIO GOT SWITCHED EARLY, BUT WILL BE MUCH MORE AWARE OF FREQ SELECTED IN FUTURE.
