Narrative:
30 NM north of tth, at FL290, we observed a #1 engine low oil pressure light illuminated. Oil quantity was decreasing toward '0' and engine oil pressure was below minimum. We retarded the throttle to idle and accomplished the in-flight engine shutdown checklist. The captain declared an emergency and we proceeded to ind for a landing. The flight attendants prepared the cabin for an emergency landing, but did not prepare for evacuate/evacuation as we expected a normal landing. As we approached ind, we received a WX report that ind was experiencing freezing rain. We then requested cvg WX. Cvg was reporting moderate to severe icing in clouds. Due to these conditions we diverted to sdf. Flight landed in sdf. Normal approach and landing accomplished and taxi to gate. Passenger deplaned through jetway and protected on other flts to their destination (atl).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE FLC EXPERIENCED LOW OIL PRESSURE, LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT, AND OIL QUANTITY DROPPING TOWARD '0.' THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. THE FLC DECLARED AN EMER, SELECTED AN EMER LNDG POINT WITH ADEQUATE WX AND MADE AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. FLT ATTENDANTS PREPARED THE CABIN FOR AN EMER LNDG BUT NOT FOR AN EVAC.
Narrative: 30 NM N OF TTH, AT FL290, WE OBSERVED A #1 ENG LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. OIL QUANTITY WAS DECREASING TOWARD '0' AND ENG OIL PRESSURE WAS BELOW MINIMUM. WE RETARDED THE THROTTLE TO IDLE AND ACCOMPLISHED THE INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. THE CAPT DECLARED AN EMER AND WE PROCEEDED TO IND FOR A LNDG. THE FLT ATTENDANTS PREPARED THE CABIN FOR AN EMER LNDG, BUT DID NOT PREPARE FOR EVAC AS WE EXPECTED A NORMAL LNDG. AS WE APCHED IND, WE RECEIVED A WX RPT THAT IND WAS EXPERIENCING FREEZING RAIN. WE THEN REQUESTED CVG WX. CVG WAS RPTING MODERATE TO SEVERE ICING IN CLOUDS. DUE TO THESE CONDITIONS WE DIVERTED TO SDF. FLT LANDED IN SDF. NORMAL APCH AND LNDG ACCOMPLISHED AND TAXI TO GATE. PAX DEPLANED THROUGH JETWAY AND PROTECTED ON OTHER FLTS TO THEIR DEST (ATL).
