Narrative:
Taxiing out of alley between concourses G and H, taxi clearance was given to runway 9L via taxiway P, the usual route. Taxi clearance was then changed to runway 9L via taxiway Q. First officer had taxi chart (our carrier only issues charts to first officer's) and was backing up taxi directions. It was dark and I feel airport signage misleading for we inadvertently wound up on taxiway south crossing runway 12. Ground control then reclred us to runway 9R for takeoff. All this happened during a high workload phase, eg, taxi checklist, before takeoff checklist, control checks, and takeoff and departure briefings, all at a busy airport. I feel for this event not to have occurred, (a) the airport signage should be improved and (B) that airlines should issue charts to both pilots. (A) above should be reviewed for clarity at night from eye level of an airliner cockpit.

Title: TAXI DEV. ARPT TXWY MARKINGS ACR POLICY OF ONLY 1 TAXI CHART IN COCKPIT.
Narrative: TAXIING OUT OF ALLEY BTWN CONCOURSES G AND H, TAXI CLRNC WAS GIVEN TO RWY 9L VIA TXWY P, THE USUAL RTE. TAXI CLRNC WAS THEN CHANGED TO RWY 9L VIA TXWY Q. FO HAD TAXI CHART (OUR CARRIER ONLY ISSUES CHARTS TO FO'S) AND WAS BACKING UP TAXI DIRECTIONS. IT WAS DARK AND I FEEL ARPT SIGNAGE MISLEADING FOR WE INADVERTENTLY WOUND UP ON TXWY S XING RWY 12. GND CTL THEN RECLRED US TO RWY 9R FOR TKOF. ALL THIS HAPPENED DURING A HIGH WORKLOAD PHASE, EG, TAXI CHKLIST, BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST, CTL CHKS, AND TKOF AND DEP BRIEFINGS, ALL AT A BUSY ARPT. I FEEL FOR THIS EVENT NOT TO HAVE OCCURRED, (A) THE ARPT SIGNAGE SHOULD BE IMPROVED AND (B) THAT AIRLINES SHOULD ISSUE CHARTS TO BOTH PLTS. (A) ABOVE SHOULD BE REVIEWED FOR CLARITY AT NIGHT FROM EYE LEVEL OF AN AIRLINER COCKPIT.
