Narrative:
I had a contract maintenance person out to the aircraft to fix a flap problem. After completing the work he left the nose gear doors open. I asked him about closing them and he told me that when hydraulic power was supplied they would close automatically. We then took off and the doors did not close, so we stayed in the traffic pattern and returned and landed with no further problems. I then got out, shut the doors myself. We then left and encountered no further problems. In the future I will question the mechanics more when what they tell me is different than what I think.

Title: FLC WAS TOLD BY MECH AFTER REPAIRING THE FLAPS THE NOSE GEAR DOOR WOULD CLOSE AUTOMATICALLY WHEN HYD PWR WAS APPLIED. THE DOORS DID NOT CLOSE AND THE ACFT TOOK OFF AND HAD TO RETURN TO MANUALLY CLOSE THE DOORS.
