Narrative:
I departed denver at XX00 MST and could not get a normal gear up indication. I immediately returned to den. After unloading the cargo, I discussed the situation with company maintenance (in burbank, ca) and the denver operations manager inspected the aircraft (he is also an a&P/ia qualified mechanic) and could not find any mechanical irregularities. The operations manager, who has operational control authority/authorized for denver, ordered the aircraft be flown to colorado springs for further inspection. I complied with his order. My feeling and grave concern now is that a ferry permit should have been issued for the conduct of this flight to colorado springs. I do not have a sound understanding of ferry permit requirements and could not find much discussion of this topic in the airman's information manual or far parts 91 and 135 (except for discussion of the MEL).
