Narrative:

We received pushback ok from ramp control to push off of gate at ord with no special comments or instructions. I told the tug operator clear to push and he commenced to push in the direction of the taxiway initially, then began turning our tail back towards the terminal. As our nose swung around facing the taxiway we suddenly saw the winglet of an MD11 pass our windscreen by about 6 ft. I asked the ramp controller why we weren't told of the approach of this aircraft since we were pushing onto or in the vicinity of the taxiway and she responded that she doesn't have control of that area. The MD11 was coming from the hangar and passed us at approximately 25-30 mph estimated, the tug operator also said nothing about the approach of this aircraft and I'm not sure that he even saw it. With the history of aircraft accidents at the end of our concourses at ord I'm concerned that procedures are such that there is no coordination between ground control and our ramp tower controller to avoid the possibility of another ground collision. I would think by now there is enough evidence to support a change in sops in that area.

Title: THE RPTR MD80 WAS ALMOST PUSHED INTO TAXIING MD11. THERE IS NO CTL OR COORD BTWN THE TWR GND CTL AND THE COMPANY RAMP CTL REGARDING PUSHING ACFT IN TO COMMON RAMP AND ACTIVE TXWY AREA.

Narrative: WE RECEIVED PUSHBACK OK FROM RAMP CTL TO PUSH OFF OF GATE AT ORD WITH NO SPECIAL COMMENTS OR INSTRUCTIONS. I TOLD THE TUG OPERATOR CLR TO PUSH AND HE COMMENCED TO PUSH IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TXWY INITIALLY, THEN BEGAN TURNING OUR TAIL BACK TOWARDS THE TERMINAL. AS OUR NOSE SWUNG AROUND FACING THE TXWY WE SUDDENLY SAW THE WINGLET OF AN MD11 PASS OUR WINDSCREEN BY ABOUT 6 FT. I ASKED THE RAMP CTLR WHY WE WEREN'T TOLD OF THE APCH OF THIS ACFT SINCE WE WERE PUSHING ONTO OR IN THE VICINITY OF THE TXWY AND SHE RESPONDED THAT SHE DOESN'T HAVE CTL OF THAT AREA. THE MD11 WAS COMING FROM THE HANGAR AND PASSED US AT APPROX 25-30 MPH ESTIMATED, THE TUG OPERATOR ALSO SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE APCH OF THIS ACFT AND I'M NOT SURE THAT HE EVEN SAW IT. WITH THE HISTORY OF ACFT ACCIDENTS AT THE END OF OUR CONCOURSES AT ORD I'M CONCERNED THAT PROCS ARE SUCH THAT THERE IS NO COORD BTWN GND CTL AND OUR RAMP TWR CTLR TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF ANOTHER GND COLLISION. I WOULD THINK BY NOW THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT A CHANGE IN SOPS IN THAT AREA.
