Narrative:
Departed white plains, ny, en route to manchester, nh. FMS failed requiring us to switch to airway (VOR) navigation. Due to the congestion in new york airspace it was almost impossible to communicate our problem to ATC. Finally when contacted, instead of making it easier for us by providing vectors for our short flight (25 mins) they loaded us up with speed, altitude, crossing restrs, and navigation problems.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: THE FLC OF AN MDT JET REVERTED TO USE OF VOR NAV AFTER THE FMS FAILED. WHEN THE PROB WAS COMMUNICATED TO ATC, THE CAPT RPTS THAT ATC LOADED THE FLC UP WITH SPD, ALT, XING RESTRS, AND NAV PROBS. ACFT EQUIP PROB LESS SEVERE FMS FAILURE.
Narrative: DEPARTED WHITE PLAINS, NY, ENRTE TO MANCHESTER, NH. FMS FAILED REQUIRING US TO SWITCH TO AIRWAY (VOR) NAVIGATION. DUE TO THE CONGESTION IN NEW YORK AIRSPACE IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO COMMUNICATE OUR PROB TO ATC. FINALLY WHEN CONTACTED, INSTEAD OF MAKING IT EASIER FOR US BY PROVIDING VECTORS FOR OUR SHORT FLT (25 MINS) THEY LOADED US UP WITH SPD, ALT, XING RESTRS, AND NAV PROBS.
