Narrative:

We taxied off the gate and had a delay of +/-20-30 mins before we could takeoff due to flow control into dfw. We asked ground to hold us somewhere. Ground told us to hold at end of runway 17L, northbound. We requested a turn sbound, into wind for our propeller brake operation. This seemed to be a problem for ground or tower, but we get it! Tone of controller voice was irritated. Tower called us and told us, 'cleared for takeoff, runway 17L.' we had #1 shut down and #2 on propeller brake, so we told tower, 'unable, starting #1, be a couple of mins.' he said, 'call me when you're ready.' we were very busy when tower called and said, '(our call sign), are Y'all ready yet?' in a nasty tone. 'Negative sir, we'll call you,' we replied. Shortly thereafter, '(our call sign), ready yet?' 'no sir, almost.' he was rushing us. It was very foggy and atmospheric icing conditions for the ATR. He cleared us for takeoff (no heading instructions). On clearance (1 hour ago) we got heading 200 degrees. I flew that heading as soon as flaps were up. This took a little longer (30 seconds longer than if in clear skies) due to atmospheric icing and higher speeds. Tower commented, 'took a long time (our call sign) before your turn.' what a jerk! Why doesn't tower tell you what heading to fly and when, at takeoff clearance, for safety. Help us.

Title: AFTER TAXIING TO THE RWY, THE CAPT OF AN ATR NEEDED TO DELAY TKOF CLRNC AND SPECIFICALLY POS THE ACFT WHILE HOLDING. THE FLC WAS QUESTIONED BY ATC MANY TIMES REGARDING THEIR DELAY IN DEP, SOMETIMES IN A 'NASTY' TONE. THE CAPT FELT THAT ATC WAS RUSHING THE FLC. AFTER TKOF, THE FLC WAS LATE TO START THE ASSIGNED TURN AND RECEIVED FURTHER QUESTIONABLE STATEMENTS FROM ATCT LCL CTLR.

Narrative: WE TAXIED OFF THE GATE AND HAD A DELAY OF +/-20-30 MINS BEFORE WE COULD TKOF DUE TO FLOW CTL INTO DFW. WE ASKED GND TO HOLD US SOMEWHERE. GND TOLD US TO HOLD AT END OF RWY 17L, NBOUND. WE REQUESTED A TURN SBOUND, INTO WIND FOR OUR PROP BRAKE OP. THIS SEEMED TO BE A PROB FOR GND OR TWR, BUT WE GET IT! TONE OF CTLR VOICE WAS IRRITATED. TWR CALLED US AND TOLD US, 'CLRED FOR TKOF, RWY 17L.' WE HAD #1 SHUT DOWN AND #2 ON PROP BRAKE, SO WE TOLD TWR, 'UNABLE, STARTING #1, BE A COUPLE OF MINS.' HE SAID, 'CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE READY.' WE WERE VERY BUSY WHEN TWR CALLED AND SAID, '(OUR CALL SIGN), ARE Y'ALL READY YET?' IN A NASTY TONE. 'NEGATIVE SIR, WE'LL CALL YOU,' WE REPLIED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, '(OUR CALL SIGN), READY YET?' 'NO SIR, ALMOST.' HE WAS RUSHING US. IT WAS VERY FOGGY AND ATMOSPHERIC ICING CONDITIONS FOR THE ATR. HE CLRED US FOR TKOF (NO HDG INSTRUCTIONS). ON CLRNC (1 HR AGO) WE GOT HDG 200 DEGS. I FLEW THAT HDG AS SOON AS FLAPS WERE UP. THIS TOOK A LITTLE LONGER (30 SECONDS LONGER THAN IF IN CLR SKIES) DUE TO ATMOSPHERIC ICING AND HIGHER SPDS. TWR COMMENTED, 'TOOK A LONG TIME (OUR CALL SIGN) BEFORE YOUR TURN.' WHAT A JERK! WHY DOESN'T TWR TELL YOU WHAT HDG TO FLY AND WHEN, AT TKOF CLRNC, FOR SAFETY. HELP US.
