Narrative:

I deferred a door seal over the phone with dispatch and maintenance control. MEL states that the bleed air line must be capped. I reminded maintenance of this procedure and was told that it could be done at the next stop which was a maintenance base. We departed and conferred with mechanics at dtw that the line should have been capped in pln. The company was under pressure to get the aircraft back to dtw to avoid cancellations of subsequent flts and chose to lie to pilots about maintenance procedures. Pilots need to read mels thoroughly and check each item.
