Narrative:
The captain's interpretation of the company operations manual was that certain seemingly required things on an approach could be substituted for by the use of other things, ie, identing fixes and intxns with the use of ATC radar, or gsia, etc. I disagreed. The approach was flown and ATC agreed it was fine and issued the approach clearance. The WX was just about VFR (3000 ft 2 1/2 mi) and the field was in sight. ATC identified a point that the captain had requested to confirm.
