Narrative:

We were in cruise flight at FL290 en route to charlotte, nc, from detroit. I was the PF. We were in contact with ZID frequency 124.57. We were issued a left turn of 20 degrees for traffic. I began a turn as requested. A TA was annunciated by our TCASII unit. I began a visual search. The traffic was indicated at '00' altitude difference and a bearing of approximately 2 O'clock. We were in IMC conditions so a visual acquisition was not possible. I soon thereafter had an RA by the TCASII telling me to climb which I immediately did. I advised my copilot to notify ATC that we were climbing in response to a TCASII RA. I had climbed to approximately FL298 when I received a 'clear of conflict' advisory from the TCASII. I then advised ATC that I was returning to my previously assigned altitude of FL290.
