Narrative:
First officer loaded the computer with the gateway SID to twiggs. At that point the rosewood transition should have been selected, but was not. The predep clearance was misread as twiggs direct to rosewood. The proper transition would have taken us to bible grove first. Direct to rosewood put us almost 7 mi to the left of course. Prior to departure I asked the first officer how we were cleared and was told it was twiggs direct to rosewood. I believed the first officer since he had approximately 15 yrs of airline experience. The main thing I have learned from this and other events is that the pilots I tend to trust and relax with because of their experience have in fact put me in the worst situation. I tend to keep a closer watch on newer pilots and in the long run have made fewer errors, because I catch errors sooner.

Title: THE FLC PROGRAMMED THEIR FLT IN THEIR COMPUTER WITHOUT THE SID TRANSITION RTE.
Narrative: FO LOADED THE COMPUTER WITH THE GATEWAY SID TO TWIGGS. AT THAT POINT THE ROSEWOOD TRANSITION SHOULD HAVE BEEN SELECTED, BUT WAS NOT. THE PREDEP CLRNC WAS MISREAD AS TWIGGS DIRECT TO ROSEWOOD. THE PROPER TRANSITION WOULD HAVE TAKEN US TO BIBLE GROVE FIRST. DIRECT TO ROSEWOOD PUT US ALMOST 7 MI TO THE L OF COURSE. PRIOR TO DEP I ASKED THE FO HOW WE WERE CLRED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS TWIGGS DIRECT TO ROSEWOOD. I BELIEVED THE FO SINCE HE HAD APPROX 15 YRS OF AIRLINE EXPERIENCE. THE MAIN THING I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS AND OTHER EVENTS IS THAT THE PLTS I TEND TO TRUST AND RELAX WITH BECAUSE OF THEIR EXPERIENCE HAVE IN FACT PUT ME IN THE WORST SIT. I TEND TO KEEP A CLOSER WATCH ON NEWER PLTS AND IN THE LONG RUN HAVE MADE FEWER ERRORS, BECAUSE I CATCH ERRORS SOONER.
