Narrative:
Departed evansville en route to st louis. Deviated around numerous embedded cells. At qball intersection we deviated around a small cell to the south and west. We were in IMC, light rain and light chop when the hail occurred. We turned immediately to the southwest and reduced airspeed to 140 KTS. The hail lasted about 15-20 seconds. We declared an emergency and proceeded to st louis airport. Supplemental information from acn 335325: radium showed cell on qball at approximately 34 NM ahead. We experienced golf ball size hail, cracking first officer's window immediately. We were in hail approximately 20 seconds. I turned 90 degrees left of course and turned out of hail before completing turn, declared emergency, slowed aircraft for window damage. Landed stl without further incident.
