Narrative:
Departing mci we encountered a left engine fire warning immediately after rotation. Determined the indication was false due to an alternating indication of fire warning and fire loop failure. Returned immediately to runway 27 after departing runway 19L. Emergency equipment had been called out by the tower because of their uncertainty about our immediate return. The landing gear was not brought up in the anxiety of dealing with the incident. In my opinion this would have only compounded the problem since we never climbed above 800 ft AGL and were in the air less than 2 mins. Maintenance reported a severed aft fire loop in the left engine nacelle.
