Narrative:

I was cleared to FL190, my altitude hold didn't engage. I caught it at FL195 and descended to FL190 and told center that I had overshot and he said no problem. About 10 mins later I was given a number for jax to call when on ground. The office said they had received a call from center of altitude variance. They said that would send report to flight standards officer in orlando and it would be 4 weeks or more if I heard anything. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the FAA did investigate this incident and concluded that enforcement action was not necessary, but that the letter would be kept on file as a matter of record for 2 yrs. ATC controller stated that since reporter had overshot his assigned altitude by 600 ft, and it caused a loss of standard separation with another aircraft, the matter had to be turned over to the FSDO for further action. This was concluded by the letter of record. The reporter stated that this incident took place approximately 15 mi southwest of jax.
