Narrative:

Very simple here. Descending into clt from sdf, the left engine which was at about 70 percent N1, emitted a muffled thud and stopped rotating. Copilot was flying, captain read appropriate checklist and took over the flying. Landed the aircraft uneventfully. The left engine gave no prior indication that it was having a problem. We did declare an emergency at engine failure and canceled upon landing.

Narrative: VERY SIMPLE HERE. DSNDING INTO CLT FROM SDF, THE L ENG WHICH WAS AT ABOUT 70 PERCENT N1, EMITTED A MUFFLED THUD AND STOPPED ROTATING. COPLT WAS FLYING, CAPT READ APPROPRIATE CHKLIST AND TOOK OVER THE FLYING. LANDED THE ACFT UNEVENTFULLY. THE L ENG GAVE NO PRIOR INDICATION THAT IT WAS HAVING A PROB. WE DID DECLARE AN EMER AT ENG FAILURE AND CANCELED UPON LNDG.
