Narrative:
A C177 nxxxxx took off from ssi. Was gone approximately 20 mins, then returned to traffic pattern on a right downwind for runway 4 flying through the left traffic for runway 34 where a waco on a local passenger ride was in the pattern. Another cessna 172 pulled out on the runway for departure and the pilot of nxxxxx started shouting at this aircraft on the radio that he was on right base turning final. No further incident occurred. After the C177 taxied in and stopped I walked over and tried to ask for cooperation in observing our standard left traffic pattern. When the individual in the passenger side said 'I'm an airline transport pilot with 12000 hours I know how to watch outside when entering a pattern.' an argument ensued, and he stated he was not the PF just riding. We have a terrible problem at ssi with pilots flying whatever pattern they want to!!
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: GND OBSERVER, HOLDER OF AN AIRLINE TRANSPORT PLT CERTIFICATE, NOTED SUBJECT ACFT ENTER TFC PATTERN OPPOSITE FROM PATTERN DIRECTION. THEN, THE INTRUDER ACFT SHOUTED AT AN ACFT TAKING THE RWY THAT HE WAS ON A R BASE. WHEN THE INTRUDER ACFT TAXIED IN, THE RPTR TALKED WITH THEM TO ADVISE THEM OF THE TFC PATTERN DIRECTION. AN ARGUMENT ENSUED.
Narrative: A C177 NXXXXX TOOK OFF FROM SSI. WAS GONE APPROX 20 MINS, THEN RETURNED TO TFC PATTERN ON A R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 4 FLYING THROUGH THE L TFC FOR RWY 34 WHERE A WACO ON A LCL PAX RIDE WAS IN THE PATTERN. ANOTHER CESSNA 172 PULLED OUT ON THE RWY FOR DEP AND THE PLT OF NXXXXX STARTED SHOUTING AT THIS ACFT ON THE RADIO THAT HE WAS ON R BASE TURNING FINAL. NO FURTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER THE C177 TAXIED IN AND STOPPED I WALKED OVER AND TRIED TO ASK FOR COOPERATION IN OBSERVING OUR STANDARD L TFC PATTERN. WHEN THE INDIVIDUAL IN THE PAX SIDE SAID 'I'M AN AIRLINE TRANSPORT PLT WITH 12000 HRS I KNOW HOW TO WATCH OUTSIDE WHEN ENTERING A PATTERN.' AN ARGUMENT ENSUED, AND HE STATED HE WAS NOT THE PF JUST RIDING. WE HAVE A TERRIBLE PROB AT SSI WITH PLTS FLYING WHATEVER PATTERN THEY WANT TO!!
