Narrative:
My partner (1/4 owner of aircraft) and I were on a sight- seeing flight over lake minnetonka. My partner was in the left seat flying the airplane, I was right seat. We were overflying partner's boat. I realized we had descended below 500 ft. Partner was not paying attention and got confused as to AGL/MSL. As a flight instructor I should have realized this problem sooner and directed partner to climb.
