Narrative:
S56 airspace and procedures are improperly designed. VFR traffic inbound from the west is routed through valley (vi) airspace at 6000 ft MSL. Slow climbing turbojet aircraft, particularly in hot WX, frequently penetrate this VFR corridor, requiring a point-out. In the above case, air carrier XXX (boeing 727) was unable to sustain sufficient climb rate to avoid the VFR corridor. I had to vector air carrier XXX to avoid a VFR aircraft operating in valley's (vi) airspace. The current airspace confign is unsafe and has been reported to S56 management and no adequate measures have been forthcoming to rectify the problem. Vectoring aircraft below the MVA will not suffice. Had other VFR aircraft been present, air carrier XXX would have been in conflict with same.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CTLR AT TRACON CLAIMS THAT AIRSPACE CONFIGN IS WRONG FOR SECTORS AND REQUIRES POINT OUTS AND VECTORING TO AVOID OTHER SECTOR'S AIRSPACE.
Narrative: S56 AIRSPACE AND PROCS ARE IMPROPERLY DESIGNED. VFR TFC INBOUND FROM THE W IS ROUTED THROUGH VALLEY (VI) AIRSPACE AT 6000 FT MSL. SLOW CLBING TURBOJET ACFT, PARTICULARLY IN HOT WX, FREQUENTLY PENETRATE THIS VFR CORRIDOR, REQUIRING A POINT-OUT. IN THE ABOVE CASE, ACR XXX (BOEING 727) WAS UNABLE TO SUSTAIN SUFFICIENT CLB RATE TO AVOID THE VFR CORRIDOR. I HAD TO VECTOR ACR XXX TO AVOID A VFR ACFT OPERATING IN VALLEY'S (VI) AIRSPACE. THE CURRENT AIRSPACE CONFIGN IS UNSAFE AND HAS BEEN RPTED TO S56 MGMNT AND NO ADEQUATE MEASURES HAVE BEEN FORTHCOMING TO RECTIFY THE PROB. VECTORING ACFT BELOW THE MVA WILL NOT SUFFICE. HAD OTHER VFR ACFT BEEN PRESENT, ACR XXX WOULD HAVE BEEN IN CONFLICT WITH SAME.
