Narrative:
Upon starting #1 engine temperature (T6) went above red line. Fuel and ignition were shut off, but starter remained engaged for approximately 1 min. We allowed starter to cool then restarted #1 engine. After takeoff we realized the starter duty cycle limit is 30 seconds. Starter should have been written up in maintenance log. Because of rush to leave on time we forgot about it.
