Narrative:
Due to distrs and time pressure, both captain and I neglected to have a required maintenance check (per MEL due to inoperative hydraulic monitor system) performed and documented in the aircraft logbook. The distrs included ground personnel delivery of hazardous cargo paperwork, flight attendant briefing regarding special needs passenger, passenger cockpit visit. All items were more or less important, but none more important than correct preparation of the aircraft for flight. We fell into the trap of allowing the pressure of getting an on time departure interfere with taking the time necessary to ensure a complete and thorough preparation for flight. Supplemental information from acn 340889: the check was supposed to be performed on the left elevator power control monitor. Due to distrs in the cockpit prior to departure (a late departure) and conversations with the flight attendant about oxygen to be given to a passenger en route, forgot to have the check completed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW FAILS TO HAVE AN ACFT MAINT PROBLEM CHECKED AND SIGNED OFF IN THE LOGBOOK AS REQUIRED UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE MINIMUM EQUIPMENT LIST. THIS WAS ON A DELAYED FLT.
Narrative: DUE TO DISTRS AND TIME PRESSURE, BOTH CAPT AND I NEGLECTED TO HAVE A REQUIRED MAINT CHK (PER MEL DUE TO INOP HYD MONITOR SYS) PERFORMED AND DOCUMENTED IN THE ACFT LOGBOOK. THE DISTRS INCLUDED GND PERSONNEL DELIVERY OF HAZARDOUS CARGO PAPERWORK, FLT ATTENDANT BRIEFING REGARDING SPECIAL NEEDS PAX, PAX COCKPIT VISIT. ALL ITEMS WERE MORE OR LESS IMPORTANT, BUT NONE MORE IMPORTANT THAN CORRECT PREPARATION OF THE ACFT FOR FLT. WE FELL INTO THE TRAP OF ALLOWING THE PRESSURE OF GETTING AN ON TIME DEP INTERFERE WITH TAKING THE TIME NECESSARY TO ENSURE A COMPLETE AND THOROUGH PREPARATION FOR FLT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 340889: THE CHK WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PERFORMED ON THE L ELEVATOR PWR CTL MONITOR. DUE TO DISTRS IN THE COCKPIT PRIOR TO DEP (A LATE DEP) AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THE FLT ATTENDANT ABOUT OXYGEN TO BE GIVEN TO A PAX ENRTE, FORGOT TO HAVE THE CHK COMPLETED.
