Narrative:
Longview TRACON (GGG) has lost primary and secondary radar for the second time today. Af reports that telephone lines OTS. Traffic has been moderate today with inclement WX around both airports that are served by the approach control. The radar was returned 3 1/2 hours later. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated the technician did not know why the telephone lines were OTS. Reporter said the radar data travels on the telephone company wires some 250 mi from the radar site to dallas and then to the facility. Reporter indicated the radar site is approximately 20 mi from the facility.

Title: RADAR OUTAGE DUE TO TELCO LINES OTS.
Narrative: LONGVIEW TRACON (GGG) HAS LOST PRIMARY AND SECONDARY RADAR FOR THE SECOND TIME TODAY. AF RPTS THAT TELEPHONE LINES OTS. TFC HAS BEEN MODERATE TODAY WITH INCLEMENT WX AROUND BOTH ARPTS THAT ARE SERVED BY THE APCH CTL. THE RADAR WAS RETURNED 3 1/2 HRS LATER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR INDICATED THE TECHNICIAN DID NOT KNOW WHY THE TELEPHONE LINES WERE OTS. RPTR SAID THE RADAR DATA TRAVELS ON THE TELCO WIRES SOME 250 MI FROM THE RADAR SITE TO DALLAS AND THEN TO THE FACILITY. RPTR INDICATED THE RADAR SITE IS APPROX 20 MI FROM THE FACILITY.
