Narrative:
Bur radar at sct continually fails to pick up aircraft west of bur airport. LR25 target failed 5 mi from vny and never reacquired. Ntd approach stated they had a solid 'hit' on him at all times. This is very important because the airliners fly final west of bur and are constantly dodging small aircraft, many that we can't see. Supplemental information from acn 341911: took radar from ntd on PA28 10 mi south of fim. Lost secondary target immediately and did not reacquire until 5 mi west of vny. Supplemental information from acn 341908: C172 on NDB approach at bur, disappeared from radar coverage between toaks intersection for 15 mi. Bur radar is totally unreliable west of bur 5 mi either side of the bur localizer.
