Narrative:
Cleared to descend from FL330 to 7000 ft then to 3000 ft. I was flying and misjudged rate of descent necessary to be below 250 KIAS within 12 NM of puerto rico. We were below 10000 ft and within 12 NM of coast while still flying at 340 KIAS. I have been flying this route for a month and in the past we have been given a 7000 ft crossing altitude at some distance, usually 25-40 NM, from sju VOR. This night we were cleared to 'patty' -- the OM for the ILS runway 8 approach. We were initially cleared to 7000 ft then to 3000 ft. I planned my descent without taking into consideration the nearness of 'patty' to field. I was mentally using the same 25-40 NM distance we had been given numerous times on previous flts. When the DC10 is in a descent there is no way to both slow down and descend at a good rate. I was also a little fatigued. There were also small build-ups in the area that I wanted to avoid. My attention to the speed limit was diverted. A normal ILS approach was made to runway 10 and a normal landing accomplished.

Title: DSNDING TO 7000 FT FROM FL330, RPTR FO, PF, MISJUDGED DISTANCE TO DSND AND SLOW. CONSEQUENTLY HE WAS WELL ABOVE THE 250 KT SPD RESTR BELOW 10000 FT. RPTR'S ATTN DISTR BY WX AND FATIGUE.
Narrative: CLRED TO DSND FROM FL330 TO 7000 FT THEN TO 3000 FT. I WAS FLYING AND MISJUDGED RATE OF DSCNT NECESSARY TO BE BELOW 250 KIAS WITHIN 12 NM OF PUERTO RICO. WE WERE BELOW 10000 FT AND WITHIN 12 NM OF COAST WHILE STILL FLYING AT 340 KIAS. I HAVE BEEN FLYING THIS RTE FOR A MONTH AND IN THE PAST WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN A 7000 FT XING ALT AT SOME DISTANCE, USUALLY 25-40 NM, FROM SJU VOR. THIS NIGHT WE WERE CLRED TO 'PATTY' -- THE OM FOR THE ILS RWY 8 APCH. WE WERE INITIALLY CLRED TO 7000 FT THEN TO 3000 FT. I PLANNED MY DSCNT WITHOUT TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE NEARNESS OF 'PATTY' TO FIELD. I WAS MENTALLY USING THE SAME 25-40 NM DISTANCE WE HAD BEEN GIVEN NUMEROUS TIMES ON PREVIOUS FLTS. WHEN THE DC10 IS IN A DSCNT THERE IS NO WAY TO BOTH SLOW DOWN AND DSND AT A GOOD RATE. I WAS ALSO A LITTLE FATIGUED. THERE WERE ALSO SMALL BUILD-UPS IN THE AREA THAT I WANTED TO AVOID. MY ATTN TO THE SPD LIMIT WAS DIVERTED. A NORMAL ILS APCH WAS MADE TO RWY 10 AND A NORMAL LNDG ACCOMPLISHED.
