Narrative:

After takeoff the captain initiated a left turn to 200 degrees as stated in the clearance. The tower controller then instructed us that we were to be runway heading assigned. The captain went back to runway heading. We were switched to departure. The departure controller told us that there had been some confusion between departure control and the tower. No one was sure if we had been issued the new departure instructions by the tower. I feel some confusion was caused by the fact that a company aircraft had departed immediately ahead of our flight with a similar sounding call sign.
