Narrative:
While holding on the localizer as published I attempted to set the missed approach into the function of the VOR equipment being utilized for the hold. This equipment affords utilization of several fixes with storing capability. While setting this up to the VOR, I inadvertently switched from the localizer which caused my holding pattern to be further out than normal. Approach advised I was proceeding further east than normal. I then caught my mistake and made the necessary corrections. This error caused no problem this time but drew my attention to possible results.

Title: SMT HOLDS IN THE WRONG AIRSPACE BECAUSE OF MISSET NAV EQUIP.
Narrative: WHILE HOLDING ON THE LOC AS PUBLISHED I ATTEMPTED TO SET THE MISSED APCH INTO THE FUNCTION OF THE VOR EQUIP BEING UTILIZED FOR THE HOLD. THIS EQUIP AFFORDS UTILIZATION OF SEVERAL FIXES WITH STORING CAPABILITY. WHILE SETTING THIS UP TO THE VOR, I INADVERTENTLY SWITCHED FROM THE LOC WHICH CAUSED MY HOLDING PATTERN TO BE FURTHER OUT THAN NORMAL. APCH ADVISED I WAS PROCEEDING FURTHER E THAN NORMAL. I THEN CAUGHT MY MISTAKE AND MADE THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS. THIS ERROR CAUSED NO PROB THIS TIME BUT DREW MY ATTN TO POSSIBLE RESULTS.
