Narrative:
At bangkok airport during taxi on taxiway C near taxiway D, short of runway 21R, tower instructed us to cross runway 21R and hold short of runway 21L after inquiring if we would accept runway 21L. I repeated the clearance I thought we received. After crossing runway 21R with an air carrier X MD11 on approximately a 2-3 mi final, tower called us back and said we were cleared to cross runway 21R and hold short of runway 21L after the landing air carrier X. Both the captain and myself only heard the crossing instructions that we repeated to ground control and that did not include the phrase 'after landing traffic.' departure from runway 21L proceeded normally. Contributing factors were the ground controller's heavy thai accent and his lack of acknowledging that we did not read back a clearance that included the phrase 'after landing traffic.' air carrier X was initially instructed to go around but stated they could land on runway 21R normally. They landed without incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FOREIGN GND CTLR, WITH HVY ACCENT, CLRED FLC TO TAXI ACROSS RWY AND TO HOLD SHORT OF THEIR TKOF RWY. TWR CTLR CONTACTED FLC AFTER XING THE RWY TELLING THEM THEIR CLRNC HAD BEEN TO CROSS, 'AFTER LNDG TFC.' FLC HAD NOT HEARD THAT AND DID NOT READ IT BACK. GND CTLR SHOULD HAVE INSURED THEY HEARD, 'AFTER LNDG TFC.' THE ACFT ON FINAL LANDED NORMALLY.
Narrative: AT BANGKOK ARPT DURING TAXI ON TXWY C NEAR TXWY D, SHORT OF RWY 21R, TWR INSTRUCTED US TO CROSS RWY 21R AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 21L AFTER INQUIRING IF WE WOULD ACCEPT RWY 21L. I REPEATED THE CLRNC I THOUGHT WE RECEIVED. AFTER XING RWY 21R WITH AN ACR X MD11 ON APPROX A 2-3 MI FINAL, TWR CALLED US BACK AND SAID WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 21R AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 21L AFTER THE LNDG ACR X. BOTH THE CAPT AND MYSELF ONLY HEARD THE XING INSTRUCTIONS THAT WE REPEATED TO GND CTL AND THAT DID NOT INCLUDE THE PHRASE 'AFTER LNDG TFC.' DEP FROM RWY 21L PROCEEDED NORMALLY. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE THE GND CTLR'S HVY THAI ACCENT AND HIS LACK OF ACKNOWLEDGING THAT WE DID NOT READ BACK A CLRNC THAT INCLUDED THE PHRASE 'AFTER LNDG TFC.' ACR X WAS INITIALLY INSTRUCTED TO GAR BUT STATED THEY COULD LAND ON RWY 21R NORMALLY. THEY LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
