Narrative:
I was training a student who was up in hours, missed the call for the R22 clearance to land runway 15R sod. Was talking to N80 TRACON for a release (nonstandard runway 06) runway 15R/left was active. Inbounds for runway 24 so BE20 had to depart runway 06 with a turn. Busy with coordination, missed the R22 call and did not observe the R22 until it was under the king air. BE20 saw the R22 and did a rapid climb over the top of the R22. The R22 advised that he never saw the BE20. Even after the incident he was not aware of what happened. I spoke to his instructor, and he advised me that he just talked to him earlier in the day that the tower called him several times and that he has to listen to what is going on. I have done several rain checks and I try to tell the pilots all the time to listen to what is going on around them, 'they are not the only aircraft in the sky.' 'get the big picture.' when we make a mistake which we do sometimes, the only thing that will save them is being aware of what is going on around them.

Title: TWR LCL CTLR IN TRAINING HAD CLRED AN R22 TO LAND IN THE GRASS AT RWY 15R AND CLRED A BE20 FOR TKOF ON RWY 06 WITH AN IMMEDIATE TURN. TWR INSTRUCTOR WAS ON THE INTERPHONE COORDINATING WITH TRACON FOR THE BE20 DEP OFF OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO NORMAL TFC. BE20 SAW THE R22 AND DID A RAPID CLB TO MISS THE HELI. NMAC.

WHEN WE MAKE A MISTAKE WHICH WE DO SOMETIMES, THE ONLY THING THAT WILL SAVE THEM IS BEING AWARE OF WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND THEM.
