Narrative:
Climbing out of phl after passing over mxe the first officer put 248 degree radial outbound as the sun was directly in our eyes and neither one of us caught it. My radio was set on the next fix, so I was not backing him up. We should have been on the 278 degree. After putting up the sun visors, we discovered the problem and quickly corrected. The center also called us and told us to turn back to 278 degrees. A good corrective action when I am in the same situation would be to call out the heading changes and radio changes the same way we do for altitude changes whenever the sun is directly in our eyes. That way we can double check it.

Title: FLC OF AN MLG SET THE WRONG DEP HEADING INTO THE VOR RESULTING IN ATC INTERVENTION AND VECTORING THEM BACK ON COURSE.
Narrative: CLBING OUT OF PHL AFTER PASSING OVER MXE THE FO PUT 248 DEG RADIAL OUTBOUND AS THE SUN WAS DIRECTLY IN OUR EYES AND NEITHER ONE OF US CAUGHT IT. THE CTR ALSO CALLED US AND TOLD US TO TURN BACK TO 278 DEGS. A GOOD CORRECTIVE ACTION WHEN I AM IN THE SAME SIT WOULD BE TO CALL OUT THE HEADING CHANGES AND RADIO CHANGES THE SAME WAY WE DO FOR ALT CHANGES WHENEVER THE SUN IS DIRECTLY IN OUR EYES. THAT WAY WE CAN DOUBLE CHK IT.
