Narrative:
During visual approach to phl runway 9R, upon extending landing gear, 'a' system hydraulic press noted zero. Landing gear and flaps extended fully, but slower than normal. Due to erratic system operation and zero hydraulic qty indication, a low approach was flown to afford time to evaluate situation. A VFR, visual approach was then flown to runway 9R with gear and flaps extended normally, all hydraulic press gauges reading normal and 'a' system hydraulic qty reading zero. No emergency was declared, and normal landing and taxi in was accomplished.
