Narrative:

On a cross country VFR flight plan from U1N to mwc, I had a growing suspicion that the alternator was not operating correctly. I decided to land at mli to check the electrical system out. After being given clearance to land, I was not able to talk to the tower, or ground control, because the battery had insufficient power left. During the taxi in I was watching for light gun signals, but never saw any from the tower. After shutdown I telephoned the control tower and explained to the controller what had happened. He said no further action was necessary on my part. He also said they used their light gun to direct us in. Summary: I do not believe any FARS were broken, nor was safety compromised. We could always hear the tower.
