Narrative:
Location: wbound direct millsap VOR off dfw. Leveling in perf mode aircraft showed perf cruise and leveled off at 10150 ft, while the center altimeter showed 10350 ft. Center altimeter showed 250-275 ft discrepancy throughout the entire flight. At that time departure called and said we were through 10000 ft and to turn to 300 degrees. At that time the first officer flying disconnected the autoplt and descended to 10000 ft on the center altimeter. Shortly thereafter we were assigned 17000 ft. No further problems were encountered. Maintenance found the center altimeter out of limits and replaced it.
