Narrative:
ATC facility: ZMA. Location: 56 DME heatt. Cleared heatt 5 then cleared to deviate for WX then direct virginia key after deviations and pilot's discretion to 13000 ft. We stayed at FL240 because of buildups and WX avoidance. At 56 DME cleared to cross virginia key at 11000 ft. We were still at FL240 and told center we could not make that crossing. We were then given a 090 degree heading. We did not violate any airspace nor altitude to my knowledge. However, controller was unhappy.
